The works of the Shaping the Future touring exhibition explored and visioned the future of ceramics and design through various material experiments and new techniques, such as 3D-printing. The exhibition opened its doors for the first time in Fiskars, Finland in November 2016 and was curated by Finnish artist Riikka Latva-Somppi. The exhibition architecture was designed by Kolja Vennewald, with the support from professor Barbara Schmidt from Kunsthochschule Berlin Weiβensee.
During the tour of the exhibition several related events were organized, such as round table meetings in which local ceramics professionals were able to discuss the future of ceramics with invited international guests. Also guided exhibition tours around the exhibition were organised.
Part of the works of the exhibition were initiated at a student workshop at the KAHLA Porcelain factory in Germany in spring 2016. The rest of the works were selected through an open call but also selected professionals were invited. After Fiskars the exhibition continued its journey to six different cities in Europe: Selb, Portadown, Stoke-on-Trent, Berlin, Ljubljana and Prague in the end of 2018.
